Spiral Maze Slow Feeder Bowl

A single moulded bowl with a raised spiral running from the rim to the centre, dividing the base into narrow winding channels. Tip dry food in and it scatters along the grooves instead of pooling, so a dog has to nose along the track and take a few pieces at a time.

What it does

It makes a meal take longer. A bowl of kibble that disappears in half a minute becomes several minutes of working along the channels, and for a lot of dogs that is the entire point — the meal becomes something to do rather than something to inhale.

The spiral is deep enough to matter without being fussy — food still comes out easily, it just comes out a few pieces at a time instead of all at once.

Practical notes

• Best with dry food — the channels are moulded for kibble, and wet food packs into them
• Roughly a standard single-meal capacity for a small or medium dog
• Works for cats too, and a lot of fast-eating cats take to it
• Lightweight, so an enthusiastic dog can push it around a smooth floor — put it on a mat if that's your dog

Care

Hand wash with a brush — the channels want something that can get into the corners. We'd keep it out of the dishwasher, as a hot cycle can warp moulded plastic like this.
